The Anointing Makes You Different

“And it happened, when all who knew him formerly saw that he indeed prophesied among the prophets, that the people said to one another, “What is this that has come upon the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?” 1 Samuel 10:11 NKJV

“There’s something different about you.” I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard this. I wasn’t saved my whole life. I didn’t grow up as a believer. In fact, I was thirty years old when I accepted Jesus Christ into my heart. But the outer change wasn’t instant until I started spending more time with God & in His Word. As I drew closer to Him, He drew closer to me; and that is when I heard these infamous words, “you’re different.”

In 1 Samuel 10, Saul is anointed to be king, but he’s not appointed instantly. Imagine being the least of your tribe and the least of your family, then being told you are going to rule over God’s people?! Who would believe it? Would you believe it? But there’s something about God’s anointing that makes even the most difficult God-given assignment possible to accomplish. And, we know it’s not us, it’s Him. Because, the anointing makes you different. And, when you’re anointed, there are signs that surely follow.

The anointing of God causes the favor of God to be on your life. In verse 4, a man with 3 loaves of bread gives Saul two of his loaves. The anointing, also, causes you to flow with the Spirit of God. In verse 6, it says the Spirit of the Lord came upon Saul and he started to prophesy. The anointing causes you to speak differently; in verse 10, Saul prophesies among prophets. These are signs that followed Saul, and they weren’t just confirmation for Saul. They were a witness to those who “formerly knew” him.

When the people who knew Saul prior to the anointing saw him among prophets and heard him, it was almost as if they didn’t recognize this new Saul. His anointing called their attention. The anointing is on us when we are in God’s will for our lives. My friend, you too are anointed by God to do that thing He’s placed in your heart. Because His super is on your natural, there is nothing that He gives you that you cannot handle, for His glory. And, it’s inevitable, others will automatically notice: you’re different. So, don’t try to hide it; don’t apologize for it. Own it because the anointing makes you different.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for another day of life and another opportunity to be in Your presence and flow with Your Holy Spirit. Thank You for the anointing and favor on my life to do the things You’ve placed before me. I admit I cannot do it without You. Apart from You, I am nothing and I can do nothing. I need You in my life every day. Everything I have on my plate today and this week, I turn over to You. And, I thank You in advance for the grace and strength to accomplish these things for Your glory. This week, as I complete the assignment on my life, may others around me see You, and not me. You alone get all the glory, honor, and praise in Jesus’ name.
